Women's golf in Rochester: getting connected

With the 2010 golf season just around the corner (yes, we know about all the snow on the ground — but spring is on the way, we promise!) are you looking for ways to meet other Rochester women golfers?

If so, you’ve come to the right place! One of the main goals of the Rochester chapter of the EWGA is to help women golfers connect.

Here are some of the ways you can meet other Rochester women golfers through the EWGA:

  • Join an EWGA weekly league. We’re finalizing our 2010 women’s golf leagues right now, and will have sign-up sheets available at our March 20 Kick-Off at Midvale Country Club.  Many of our chapter members have made great golf friends by playing in leagues!
  • Participate in our weekend travel league. This league is a great way to play a variety of Rochester-area courses — and meet a cross-section of our chapter membership — without a big up-front commitment.
  • Sign up for chapter events. We sponsor a number of tournaments and other events throughout the year, and we’d love for you to join us!
  • Take a golf clinic. Meet other women golfers and work on your game. It’s like holing two chips with only one stroke!
  • Compete in our EWGA Chapter Championship. This tournament — the largest amateur women’s championship golf tournament in the world — provides opportunities for you to meet not only Rochester golfers, but (if you advance — and you know you can!) women from other EWGA chapters as well. And it’s a flighted tournament, so you can play regardless of your skill level.

So if you’re looking to meet other Rochester women golfers, our EWGA chapter has just what you need! Why not click here to join today?

Dear EWGA Members. Did you know you can win great prizes by recruiting new members?

Pretty cool, wouldn’t you say?

Under the EWGA 2010 Member-Get-A-Member (MGAM) Campaign, sponsored by Nike Golf, if you recruit at least 2 people, you’ll be entered in a Chapter drawing for one of several unique Nike gifts :-)

Invite golfers to join

If you “recruit a threesome,” you are entered in a national drawing for one of 25 complimentary EWGA memberships.

If you “recruit a foursome” you are considered a top recruiter for our Chapter. You qualify for a Nike shoulder tote and are entered in a drawing for one of ten Nike Golf drivers.

Recruit 12 or more new members and you are entered in a drawing for a custom fitting for a new set of Nike Golf Clubs at Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. Airfare and hotel included! You also win a Nike golf bag and will be recognized at this year’s EWGA national conference.

The 2010 MGAM Campaign runs through December 31, 2010.

It’s easy to enter the contest. All you do is:

  1. Download a membership application from the EWGA national site;
  2. Write your name in the space marked “How did you hear about EWGA/EWGA Member” (about 2/3 down the application);
  3. Give the form to the woman you’ve recruited to submit to national.

Bring friends to our March 20 Kick-Off!

You can also invite your golfing girlfriends to our 2010 Kick-Off Luncheon on March 20. We’ll have membership applications there for you and your friends to fill out.

Makes it even easier!

Only current paid members are eligible to win: you must be a member at the time the new member joins, and a member-in-good-standing at the time the prizes are awarded.

So tell all your golfing girlfriends and co-workers about the EWGA experience –  and good luck in the MGAM contest!

Hey, members, we need your help

Do you like meeting other women and talking about golf?

Then why not lend a hand at our table at the Rochester Golf Show 2010?

We need volunteers to hand out our literature and tell women about the Executive Women’s Golf Association and our local chapter.

The show dates and times are:

  • Friday, February 12, 3 pm – 7 pm
  • Saturday, February 13, 10 am – 7 pm
  • Sunday, February 14, 10 am – 4 pm

Volunteers get free admission to the show!  Plus tons & tons of good golf karma :-)

Thanks for your help!

Tonight’s the night: our first 2010 networking event for Rochester women golfers.

Won’t you join us? We’re gathering at the Tap & Mallet from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

The event is open to both EWGA members and non-members.

Rochester women golfers, networking event

Mark your calendars! We’re hosting a networking event for Rochester women golfers at the Tap & Mallet on January 13, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

The event is open to both EWGA members and non-members and we’ll be giving out door prizes :-)

The Tap & Mallet, for the uninitiated, is Rochester’s premiere destination for craft beers. It’s located in the South Wedge at 381 Gregory St.

So please stop by! This will be a great chance to meet other Rochester-area women golfers — or catch up with old friends — while enjoying a delectable glass of beer.

See you there!

First league of the season!

The Wednesday night league at Victor Hills kicked off on the evening of April 29. It was a gorgeous night — and while for many league members it was one of the first (if not THE first) golf outing of the year, the scorecards included more than a few pars and birdies!

The Rochester, NY chapter of the EWGA kicked off its first league of the season at Victor Hills last night.

Getting ready to tee off on a beautiful spring evening.

Don’t have a “league of your own” to play with this summer? It’s not too late — we have openings left in some of our leagues and we also always welcome subs. You don’t have to be an EWGA member to play! Click here to read more or request league information.

An easy way to stay in touch

Have you ever wished there was an easy way to know when we’ve published something new on the site?

Well guess what — there is!

Introducing: RSS

Over on the right hand sidebar, down near the bottom, there’s a button labeled with the word Subscribe. It looks like this:

subscribe-button

The button uses a technology called RSS (Really Simple Syndication).

Here’s how it works:

  • Behind the scenes, software periodically checks the site to see if it’s been updated.
  • If it finds new content on the site, the software grabs a copy and
  • Forwards the article to RSS subscribers.

All you need to do is become an RSS subscriber!

So how do you do that?

There are two options.

By email

The easiest is probably to use an email service. To do this, click  on the Subscribe button. Select Email, and then select an RSS service, such as SimplyHeadlines or FeedBlitz.

Follow the prompts to sign up for the service.

And that’s it! Any time we update the site — for example, with a reminder about a golf clinic or a Rochester golf event — within 24 hours the article will be delivered right to your inbox.

What could be easier? :-)

Install an RSS feed application

If you’d like, you can also explore the other RSS services. These services work a bit differently: instead of emailing site updates to you, you’ll need to open an RSS feed application to view the updates.

These are especially useful if you decide you’d like to get updates from multiple websites of interest to you. When you open your RSS application, you’ll see headlines and links to all the new articles, grouped by site. It’s a great way to keep an eye on sites without having to go out on the Web to check them.

So subscribe to our site today — and you’ll never have to worry about missing anything of interest to Rochester women golfers again!

Save the dates: Sunday, May 31 and Friday, June 12

golf-shadowOur Social Events committee has been busy organizing some events for this season.

These look like a lot of fun — and will be great for networking with other Rochester women golfers:

  • Sunday, May 31: A Golf Fashion Event and Eighteen Hole Scramble at our chapter sponsor Eaglevale.
  • Friday, June 12: Nine-hole Scotch Tournament at Greystone.

Registration forms for both events are now online here.

We’ll be posting more information on these events here as it becomes available, so check back soon!
