Champion Hills Country Club

Champion Hills County Club is a beautiful, 9-hole private golf course that just opened this spring. It was designed by Golf Course Architect Barry L. Jordan, who, according to the Champion Hills website, “believes that a golf course that exhibits sound design principles, compositional beauty, and thrilling golf, is the product of an Architect’s ability to arrange its features and forms in both an artistic and functional manner.”

What better setting for a round of golf? Our Wine & Nine will feature a nine-hole fun scramble. Carts are included with the registration fee.

You’ll be one of the first in the Rochester area to play this great new course!

Our event will also feature food, wine, and prizes.

Mark your calendar! This event is Friday, May 21. Tee-off is at 5:00, registration begins at 4:30 pm. Champion Hills is located at 675 Championship Dr. Victor, NY.

The cost is $50 to EWGA members and $60 to non-members.

The only thing that makes golf any better than that: a match-up that goes down to the wire. And yesterday’s First Annual EWGA Thuway Challenge did just that.

Rochester took 3 of the 4 points on the front nine, but Syracuse grabbed 5 on the back -- sending the first annual EWGA Thruway Challenge into a tiebreaker.

A total of 12 points was up for grabs: four for the Front Nine “Team Best Ball” and eight for the Back Nine “Modified Match.” And when event organizer Debbie Harper finished tallying up the points, the result was a dead even 6-6.

We had to go to a tie breaker using net Back Nine totals, which put Rochester ahead by a mere eight strokes — a slim margin, but enough to merit the invisible 4-foot trophy plus the promised Bragging Rights.

Yet.

But — drumroll please — on Sunday October 4, starting at 11:00 a.m., at Ravenwood Golf Course in Rochester, NY, the Rochester and Syracuse EWGA chapters are meeting for . . .

The First Annual EWGA Thruway Challenge!

This year’s format will feature 9 holes of two-person best ball and 9 holes of match play, for 18 holes total.

All scores will be net of handicap. A current handicap index is required to play.

We’ll go off in split tees (front and back) and then meet back at the clubhouse for scoring.

The Winning Chapter will be awarded Official Bragging Rights for one year.

The cost is $49 per player and includes greens fees and a cart equipped with GPS. Food and beverage are available in the clubhouse but are not included in the price.
